The Liberal Democrats will ensure that we maintain access to the single market (worth £222 billion in 2015). Forecasts show that South Staffordshire could lose up to 8,600 jobs as a result of leaving the EU. 98% of businesses in the area are either small or medium sized.

"The Conservatives have no plans for leaving the EU let alone protecting small and medium sized businesses, many of whom have just been hit by business rates hikes of over 30%. They are the bedrock of our community and local economy," said Hilary Myers, Liberal Democrat candidate for South Staffordshire.

A Hard Brexit risks up to 8,600 job in South Staffs, according to South Staffs council's own impact report.

The NHS is in crisis: our plan requires just 1p on income tax: services need to be paid for and funded properly.

To invest in schools and tackle climate change. Our plans for schools ensures no school and no child loses out: our £6.9bn plan amounts to £36.8m for Staffordshire.

    Strong and stable my arse!

As polling day approaches, the 'strong and stable' government promised by Theresa May seems to be in tatters. It is no longer possible to be sure what she stands for. It is clear that ill-thought-out policies will progressively reduce the Tory lead, but not to the point where she can use the 'fear factor' of Corbyn as Prime Minister to convince voters that they must vote Conservative to save the country from this threat.

Vote for Hilary Myers on 8 June because protecting animal welfare is the right thing to do.

Our manifesto makes the following commitments regarding animal welfare:

    • Introduce stronger penalties for animal cruelty offences, increasing the maximum sentencing from six months to five years, and bring in a ban on caged hens.
    • Clamp down on illegal pet imports through legal identification requirements for online sales, and minimise the use of animals in scientific experimentation, including by funding research into alternatives.
    • Continue to improve standards of animal health and welfare in agriculture by updating farm animal welfare codes and promoting the responsible stewardship of antibiotic drugs.
    • Ensure that future trade deals require high safety, environmental and animal welfare standards for food imports, including clear and unambiguous country of-origin labelling for meat and dairy products.
    • Develop safe, effective, humane and evidence-based ways of controlling bovine TB, including by investing to produce workable vaccines.
